Internet connection problems: how you can try and fix the problem

We're sure that everyone has run into the scenario where you are suddenly no longer connected to the internet. While this can be really annoying, it isn’t a reason to panic. Gizmodo  released an article providing 5 steps to help restore your internet connection, aimed at common problems you might run into at home. These tips are pretty useful, and should serve you well in most situations. Here's the simplified version:

  1. Restart Your Router - This step often works, as by restarting your router (or other device which connects you the internet), you will be clearing any temporary bugs or issues, and will force the device to connect to the internet in a clean state.
  2. Test Multiple Devices - This will let you determine if the problem is inside or outside your home. You can do this by checking 2 or more devices, such as a smartphone and a laptop. If you have a spare Ethernet cable, plug your laptop into your router. If this doesn’t work, it may be a problem from your internet provider, so it would be best to call them.
  3. Troubleshoot Wi-Fi Issues - The problem may be the Wi-Fi signal, if you have an Ethernet cable, you should be able to quickly determine this by plugging it into your laptop. If you don’t have one, you should check your Router’s settings, make sure that no one’s changed the password, and reverse any modifications you may have made to your Wi-FI.
  4. Troubleshoot issues of a specific device - If only one device can’t connect, then the best thing to do is restart that particular device, and make sure that it is updated to the latest available software. If it happens to be a Laptop or Desktop, you should check for viruses.
  5. Other Tips - You should keep your devices up to date, try a different browser, or change the password on your Wi-Fi connection.
