How to use Messages with your MacBook

Messages on your MacBook is the text messaging software that is included. You can use this to send iMessages (apple messages to MacBooks, iPhones & iPads), or send a text/sms instead of using your iPhone.

Set up iMessage

You will most likely be set up to use iMessage when you set up your MacBook. if not, you will be asked to sign in with your Apple ID when you first open the messages app.

Have a Conversation

  1. Click on the compose button (pencil icon) at the top of the window. 

  2. You can address the message by typing in the person’s name, email or phone number, or by clicking on the + button to add people.

  3. If a person is already in your contact list, they will appear as you type.

  4. Should you want to message multiple people, just add more recipients 

  5. Type your message, then press the “return” button to send. 

  6. You can also include emoji’s by clicking on the smile icon

  7. To add images or other files, drag or paste it into the message text field.

After starting the chat, click Details in the corner of the window to see other actions, including:

    • Choose not to be disturbed

    • Use FaceTime to start an audio call, video call or share the screen

    • See the recipient's location—if they're sharing their location with you.

    • Review all of the photos and files that were exchanged in the conversation.

    • Add a group name, add members to a group or leave a group.
