Recording your iPhone screen can be incredibly useful, such as wanting to record something you saw online, or create an instructional video to share with your friends. These videos can be sent to anyone or uploaded online to social platforms such as Twitter or Instagram. Whilst screen recording is built into your iPhone, you will first need to see if the screen record option shows within the Control Center.

Control Center

The Control Center is a shortcut to the commonly used apps/features for the iPhone. To open the Control Center, swipe down from the top-right corner if you’re using an iPhone X or later, or swipe up if you have an iPhone 8 or earlier. If you see a screen record button (looks like a Dot with a Circle), then you are good to start. if not or are unsure, you can enable/check by opening Settings > Tap on Control Center > tap on Customise Controls. This screen will allow you to add and remove items from the control center menu. Once you have located “Screen Recording” (you might need to scroll down) tap on the Green + icon next to it. This will move Screen recording into your Control Center Menu list.

Record Your Screen

Now, you’re ready to start recording your screen. Do note that certain apps will block you from recording the screen. To start recording

  • open the app or website to be recorded

  • Access the Control centre by pulling down from the top right corner (iPhone X model or later) or Swipe up for older models

  • If you don’t want to be disturbed while recording, tap on the crescent moon icon to enable "do not disturb”. This is recommended otherwise  notifications/calls will be picked up by the recording.

  • To start the recording, tap on the record button. A timer will show, giving you 3 seconds before the recording starts. Tap the screen to hide the control centre menu

  • By default the microphone  (used to record external sounds) is not enabled. if you wish to enable, hold the record button before starting, then tap on the microphone option.

  • To end the recording swipe down/up to access Control Centre, then tap on the record button.

  • You will find your videos saved under the Photos App.
