MacBook Pro Touch Bar Tips & Tricks

Are you considering or have recently purchased the latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar? If so, here are a few tips and tricks to get you started.

Tap & Slide

When you are adjusting volume or brightness, you can save time by only using one tap & slide, cutting out necessary steps. To do this, tap and hold the respective button, and slide left or right, with left representing down, and right being up.

Control Strip Expanded

At first, the Control Strip will contain up to 4 buttons on the right side of the Touch Bar. You can customize which buttons are shown, and you can access the Expanded Control Strip. To bring it up, tap the "<" button to the left of the Control Strip. The Expanded Control Strip contains more commonly used buttons.

Wake up Touch Bar from Sleep

The Touch Bar goes dim after 60 seconds and will go to sleep mode after another 15 seconds. To turn your Touch Bar back on, you can tap the Trackpad, as well as touch any Key or the Touch Bar.

Scrub

With the Touch bar, you can easily move forwards or backward while watching a video or listening to music, by using Scrub. This button looks like a bar graph, and the Touch bar will show when scrubbing is available. The best feature of Scrub is that in Safari, you can scrub through the ads played before most online videos.

Tap to the left of ESC

On the MacBook Pro, you might notice that the escape key (ESC) doesn’t align with the side of the keyboard. If you tap to the left of ESC, it will still respond as normal. This is handy for touch typists.
